Boat Club Quiz Night
The boat club parents' association are holding a quiz night on Saturday 16th March. A poster for the event can be found here and an application for tickets is here.
GB Triallists
Shiplake College’s Senior Rowing Squad was inspired to train hard during the pupils’ half-term holiday. Not only is the Schools’ Head approaching on their Competitions Calendar, with Thursday 7th March heavily penciled in, but six boys also had the additional incentive of GB Rowing Trials.
Daniel Barrett, Michael Glover, Max Hearnden, Marek Lapham (Skipwith year 13), Dominic Parnell and Harry Vardigans (Skipwith year 12) comprised an optimistic Shiplake contingent heading for the bitterly cold waters hosting the GB Rowing Trials in Boston, Lincolnshire.
On the Saturday the top pair from Shiplake was Vardigans and Lapham as they finished 8th out of 44 boats over the 5km course. Glover and Lapham were not far behind finishing 14th.
The Sunday of the trials always provides a test as the boys change partners and quickly have to form an alliance with a rower from another school. Results were not quite as successful as Saturday with Lapham producing the best result coming in 20th.With most of the Shiplake oarsmen finishing in the twenties they will still hope for an invite to the next test in the GB selection process, the Spring Assessment.

Junior Leader
Just before we broke for half term, Will Berks took over from Jordan Gibson as the new Junior House Leader. I am sure he will do a fine job this half term and we wish him well in leading the juniors.

Cold? Rowers love it....
The J15 rowers enjoyed training in the snow this afternoon. An 8k run followed by a plyometrics circuit...standard stuff.
Junior House Hockey
Skipwith fielded a talented team today int he Junior House Hockey competition. Despite freezing conditions the boys dug deep to produce some excellent team work and some proficient skills. The overall score placed us 3rd behind Welsh and Orchard. Well done to the team and thanks to those who went to support.
Pool Competition
The Skipwith Pool Competition in aid of Comic Relief has begun in earnest. Round 1 is underway in both the Junior and Senior divisions. No shock defeats as yet but I sense some giants of the pool table are about to fall. Nav and Matron have been practising hard, the medical wing staff are feeling lucky and the juniors are starting to show their true skills. . .
Hoping for finals this Friday, but with such a busy week, this may run for a while.

Shiplake's Amazing Joseph
Having just seen the college production of Joseph, I am absolutely bowled over by the enthusiasm of the whole cast. It really was an amazing production and the drama and music departments have excelled themselves. As a housemaster, the sense of pride in seeing so many boys from Skipwith performing after weeks of rehearsals is immense. A huge well done to the following boys from Skipwith and best of luck in the final production tomorrow night.

A Shiplake Joseph
Excitement is building in anticipation of the school's production of Joseph which debuts tomorrow and runs until Saturday evening. Extra tickets are now available via the school office for each performance. A number of Skipwith boys are involved in the production and we obviously wish them well in the next few days. Not wanting to give too much away here is a sneak preview of what to expect...break a leg!
Boulangerie Francaise
One of the many activities that year 9 undertake on a Tuesday afternoon is to cook french bread with Madame Parrott. Sam is keen to show off his excellent attempt in this photo.
May Bank Holiday
Parents please be aware that in the school calendar, we are in school on the 6th May which is the May Bank Holiday. The reason for this is due to the need to avoid losing teaching time at a very busy and key time of the year.
Pool Tournament
Even if you do not think you are that good at pool, get an entry in. It's for charity!
A Treat!
In Skipwith House it would appear that infractions and incomplete works have been becoming increasingly scarce in recent weeks whilst the number of excellence slips continues to astound. Consequently a treat was in order. Matron graciously provided doughnuts, cookies and squash at break time today. Hopefully, the sugar rush won't affect lessons this afternoon...
Well done to the huge number of boys who consistently are trying their hardest and getting it right - keep up the good work!

Ballroom 2013
The year 12 boys are looking resplendant in their black tie outfits, and thanks to the efforts of Mrs Knight they are hot to trot at the Queen Anne's Ballroom Ball. Photos of all the boys can be seen in the house gallery here. Please feel free to download!
